Long line fishing used a long line with several baited hooks that floats just below the surface so athat the animals on the surface are hooked and snagged. Often times the long lines will entrap many animals that the fishermen arent looking to catch, resulting in millions of tons of fish, all unnecessary deaths. Those animals are called bycatch.
Many different kinds of fish are caught, along with turtles, seals, and of course, sharks. The population of endangered leatherback turtles has dropped by 90% over the past few decades because of harmful nets and long line fishing.
